It is really quite alarming how so much un-scriptural practices are still entering into the professing Christian church. This comes in the form of self-help books and courses which promote self esteem, and self actualization.
Much of the ‘church” has taken its eyes, and doctrine, off the finished work of Christ, and is focusing on our present life, and achieving happiness in the here and now.
The church should be affixed on the Savior, rather than self.
Unfortunately, this is taking place universally, but is becoming more prominent in two particular places, namely many who claim to be “Sola Scrioptura,’ as well as many in the Charismatic community, who claim that they trust in the power of the Holy Spirit of God.
It is time for both sides to stop focusing on self help, and how to achieve a good standing in the world, and trust the Word of God alone, as illuminated by the Spirit of God alone. This will indeed bring glory to God alone.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Ephesisns 4:11-16
Remember, that the only “religious work” that the Father is glorified by is the FINISHED work of Jesus Christ.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Colossians 2:8-10
